This is a topic I have been thinking about and experimenting a lot with my new website and some of our clients projects. I have realized, it is crucial for online marketing and every other business decision you take as a start up.
The first time ever did split testing as an Digital Strategist was when I had to do PPC ad campaigns for an employer I used to work five years back.
You may first watch the below YouTube Video to understand Pay Per Click advertising:
It was fun and you learn from your actions, some ads get more hits and some were basically waste of money. But the key is that you get better and better every time you do some split testing.
I have seen that digital marketers like the split testing very much and they’ve been talking about it very much. However I would say every one would love to get right on the first time to get more ROI. The problem is not many people know how to successfully do the tests and get awesome results for them or their clients.
For example if you look at a website or sometimes you can think hey wait a minute this site is does not look cool. the fonts are horrible or it does not match with the site background.
To share with you my experience, I’m still split testing occasionally every aspect of this site. So I would like to hear form any of our readers to let me know what you think about this site and how best you would like to see it in the coming months. I’m continuously trying for excellence.
Also do not believe anyone without carefully researching and trying it the “DIY“. Okay the very basic explanation of split testing is you change one variable while keeping the other veritable the same. If you keep the font same and change the background color, or you change the size of the font. These might be very minor changes, but the impact would be serious and amazing.
You can start small and go major changes like, completely changing the sites, appear colors and testing in different browsers and stuff. Especially in PPC advertising I’ve been getting some serious results from changing the fonts and message content sizes.
The industry experts has found out that, there are variables that whisper and variables that would screams the testing results. the important thing is, understanding the differences and changing it accordingly. The variables that whispers are minor elements of online platform, like the font sizes, article headlines & colors, Background of the website/Blog etc. These are easier to test and could be corrected very soon. And still it would give a good impact to your site’s attractiveness. But you may need a professional to get the best of results, because it may sometimes not produce the highest expected results if those small changes are not done perfectly.
For people who are doing PPC advertising this is very important from the point of start!
The next is testing with a variable which would scream when you do a some changes. They are pricing, message of your ad of landing page to the site/blog, and what you offer for your target audience. However these has a major impact for your sales and online revenue generations. if you are giving an offer, you better give it right or else the noise of the screaming might get your whole process and business at stake.
At FernandoBiz.com I’m working on different levels of split testing to get things right. It’s a learning process and we like the confusing results. So we know what best to give when we do the split testing to our clients work.
Also keep in mind that variables would be giving different result form market to market in different geographical locations. But you need to test it until you get it right and happy with the results and the income it brings in.
If you need to test your ad copy or redesign it for greater impact, you can let me know or you can always take some advice from a professional Online Marketer. if you need to analyze you website, I would recommend you tools like Visual Website Optimizer and Google Website Optimizer. Have a check and let me know what you think about those.
Finally I would say do not over complicate things and get messed up. I had my own moments when I was designing websites, but try to learn from the journey and you will get to become quit good at it in few months. I had some really bad experiences before I get this site look to this level. Still I’m working on the site content and the design and I would like to hear what you think and how better this should look!!
