How to write good content for websites is a question every content writer may have in their early days of copywriting career. I ask this question every time I prepare to write a blog post or a SEO documentation for client websites. Today I’m creating content for Lithuanian Dance Studio Website we did at Futurist Business and I want to make sure the website has the bestselling message for their target audience.
The website will be in Lithuanian language so I’m using the support of a native speaker to write the exact content I draw for the website in English.
With the internet full of resources and various types of writing techniques, it’s very important to filter the best advice before you even start to read those huge content platforms. After browsing through so many websites I have developed a sense that I can easily filter out and find the best online content resources I want to do my copy writing.
For any website or blog the content is the foundation and it’s very important to have content that attracts the audience from the first impression and engage them to read. Once you get your reader engage always have a call to action where they sign up for your page or buy your product or services. They will have a choice and some of the readers will want to take the action.
So here are some of the most crucial points to consider when you are writing content that sells.
1. First study your target audience
This is something I always do and the part which takes the most of my time when it comes to producing website content. It should be remembered that every website and client has a different selling proposition. You have to customize and create content according to their product or services and convey the message to the customer. If you’re writing for a highly competitive market always try to highlight some differentiation through the content. So take the time to understand your target market and your content will start bringing revenue to the business.
2. Have a focused message
This is something that will keep you on the track when writing. To produce killer content, you should have structure about the areas you will want to cover in your writing and it will keep you flowing smoothly. I always prepare a pen written draft and refer to it when I feel like I’m missing the points. I would say you need to have an underlined goal and mission to sell more and get the best of your creative juices flow when you are writing.
When having a goal in mind, your content will remain relevant and continue to have strong substance. If you do not know where you’re going, you’re more likely to go onto tangents and provide weaker content than if you were focused on taking your audience to your goal.
3.Write effective headlines
You should convey the benefit to the reader by creating an effective headline. Write a short powerful message at the shortest possible way. The research I have done has shown that a strong headline is the most important part of your content. No one will want to read if you don’t have a headline that screams the value it will give to the person who reads it. Insert the keywords that tell the benefits and make it sound sexy. Use the numbers to grab attention. For example, “Top 10 online businesses to start in 2013”, “3 most useful online marketing tips”.
The online gurus says that best way is to split test using some headings published on magazines. Those magazines only get sold if they have a killer headline, that’s the first impression they give to a person who screens over the front cover.
4. Make a claim to the reader
Give a statement that challenges them and build curiosity to start reading. In this case the introduction is very important and you should have your keywords in the intro section of your article to get search engines advantages as well. When you write a killer headline with those in mind you are increasing their chance of being intrigued by your headline and read your content.
5. Use your unique personal voice
This is how you differentiate your writing from others and stand out in the long run. There are more than 56 million WordPress websites currently and it’s growing every single day. So if you are thinking of building an online brand which would turn into an Online Business empire, start it from your content. Be yourself, some people will accept and embrace it, others will move on to something else. The more you are yourself, the more loyal of a following you will build, and that is the type of following that is converted into profit.
So those are some of the methods I keep in mind before and while I do my writing. This is a skill that needs a lot of practice and split testing different strategies. Keep creating great content and it should become easier as you establish processes. Keep trying to provide greater content and build a larger audience and you will enjoy the benefits of having successful content!
