Link building is often not so much considered by most people who do SEO. However, when they decide to use link building in their SEO strategies and programs, they tend to use it too much. So what is really the right way to handle link building for SEO?
Choose the right methods
The first thing that you have to do is to choose which link building method you should incorporate or use in your SEO strategy. It would be great if we can use all methods, but that would be too costly and would often than not offset with the results it will produce. Another point is that some link building methods work best in some situation than others. Lastly, some link building methods that are the favorite of most SEO professionals actually turn out to be not so good as others.
One example is the use of widgets and infographics for link building practices. Although, these techniques might seem to be effective and have positive long-term effects most of the time it actually doesn’t. Google’s web spam team cleared that widgets and infographics are not the best practices that marketers should use for link building. They should not expect too much result from these methods as compared to the results that they can get from other link building techniques such as editorial advertisements or mentions and back-linking by high ranked blogs and websites.
Choose the right amount
As we have stated earlier, in order to have the best results we do not have to have everything in our strategy since it’s too costly to do so. We have to set the right amount for our website depending on the need and the demand that we expect to get for our website. We have to set our link building technique in line with our goals and objectives for our website as a whole. We also have to consider our budget for the project and the duration so that we can effectively and efficiently set deadlines for the tasks. This will help us monitor results and see where we are having problems or delay at any point of time during the project.
External or Internal
We have to decide if we’re going to do link building externally, by use of other websites or internally, through accepting guest postings or even both. Probably, the best answer is to consider both but focus on what you think is more appropriate and suited for your type of website. For instance, for a how-to baking blog accepting and doing guest posts with similar and high quality websites would be the best technique that we can employ. However, we must always remember that whenever we do link building we have to carefully select the websites that we will be dealing with and make sure that their content is related or somewhat appropriate to your own website’s content.
Follow the rules
Some people have been abusing the use of link building. Most of the time people abuse the use of the comments function and often force their links on the website by leaving their ads and link in the comments section. We have to take note that this kind of practice is not acceptable and would only backfire in the near future. The reason why we do link building is because we want to build good relationships with similar and high quality websites. If we follow the rules and act accordingly, we would be able to gain positive and organic results soon in the future. Yes its true that black hat SEO technique gives us the fastest and immediate good results, but they do not hold out and cannot be sustained. Most of the time they only result in more dreadful circumstances where websites are penalized or completely banned. So we must always do remember to play fair and clean so that we can also reap positive and organic results that will sustain us in the long term.
