Social media and social media marketing are great for a home based business for a number of reasons (listed below). Just remember to go in with a plan and specific goals and remember that social media is a time vampire and it is easy to lose hours of productive time in social media (consider yourself warned).
1. Social media works more outside of business hours than in
As a home business you are more able to work outside of business hours. There is also the added benefit that you can work through your productive and money making hours during business hours and then after business hours you may go on social media and start communicating and posting.
2. There is no restriction to how much you use it
You can post on social media every ten minutes every day if you wish. There is no limit to how much you post. The only restricting factor is if you do it too often then people will start getting annoyed with you.
3. It is a form of communication you can use for free
Social media isn’t a game or even research tool. It is just yet another means of communication, and despite the cryptically old whining about it and shaking their walking sticks it is no different to sending a letter in the good old days, except that you can get a reply within second whilst watching for the hot scenes in the Tomb Raider movies.
4. Social media posts can give you another search engine result slot
A social media post may appear in the Google search engine results pages. It happens from time to time, which is which social media marketing is something you should try for free every now and again to see if you get more Google exposure than you normally would.
5. There are fewer marketing restrictions
It is true that there are fewer marketing restrictions on social media than there are with things like affiliate advertising, and with social media marketing you do not have to convince a blogger or web master to publish your advert, nor do you have to conform to their personal stipulations. There are stipulations for what you can and cannot do on social media, but compared to dealing with blog master’s, web masters and affiliate advertising networks it is very easygoing.
6. Social media exposes you to numerous demographics
You will find that social media exposes you to numerous demographics and target audiences/market segments that may be otherwise expensive to make contact with and/or influence. The chances of you making an impact on this alternative demographic is slim, but it may be worth a shot if you can get it.
7. There are plenty of tools to help you
There are free online tools and mobile apps-a-plenty to help you with your social media marketing. There are some that simply help you collect your messages and others that act as a management system for you. There are also books on how to manage your social media marketing campaign.
8. Post material for one network may be repeated across many
This is one of the great things about social media in that you may repeat the same written content again and again across lots of social media profiles and networks and Google don’t penalize you. The content on social media is crawled but not indexed, which means your website will not have its search engine position compromised if your share the same content again and again.
9. Copyright issues do not apply on social media
There is a lot of fuss about copyright on social media because people are watching TV shows and listening to music that people are supposed to buy. That is why the government keeps trying to restrict freedom on there, but doing such things will make it so that if a person wants to write something such as “Just do it” then they have to pay Nike.
If people write “That’s Hot” then they have to pay Paris Hilton, and you can be sued if one of your videos or songs even sounds similar to one that has already been published. Luckily the government hasn’t been able to change the laws to restrict social media yet, so you can use the content of anybody and anything you see online or offline on social media.
This can take a lot of the work out of your job for posting things on social media. The only problem with this scenario is that you may end up posting content that people have seen already.
